What is Floatation Therapy?

Also known by the more clinical name REST (Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy), float therapy is a proven holistic health treatment that is backed by decades of scientific research.

At The Salty Turtle you will enter your large private float room where you are in complete control of the environment including soft lighting and music therapy. While you float in body-temperature water containing a thousand pounds of dissolved Epsom salts, your body is suspended effortlessly, creating the effect of near zero gravity. You will be in a cocoon where your mind will no longer distinguish where the air and water meet, allowing you to temporarily lose sensation of your body so that your mind can fully drift away. Your body floats like a cork on the surface of the water allowing every muscle to gradually relieve its functional tensions.

Floating was invented in the 1950s by American neuroscientist Dr. John Lilly for research on the mind. Research spanning decades in Floatation therapy have proven amazing physical and mental benefits. The unique sensory-input-controlled environment required for floatation therapy allow both the body and mind to feel more relaxed and join together in a state of ultimate peace and bliss within a short period.

History & Science Behind Floating

Floating can help just about everyone and has been studied since the early 1980's.  It has been found to be an extremely effective natural pain reliever and has been found to improve physical recovery and decrease stress hormones leading to deep levels of relaxation.

Experiments have proven floating can improve mental performance including memory and speed of learning.  In addition, it can improve physical performance across many different sports.

Most Americans are deficient in magnesium and with 1000 pounds of Pharmaceutical Grade Epsom salt, this will assist in the absorption of the magnesium.

Room Versus Pod

At The Salty Turtle, we believe there is a big difference between our floatation therapy rooms and a float tank or float pod.  Although each device does the same thing, we’ve found that the float room has a few extra benefits.

Our custom-built float rooms are open, modern, and inviting, with a larger enclosure, more overhead space, and less claustrophobic feel than the traditional float tank or pod. There is no lid to close you in,  You simply step into the float room through a normal door within your private shower area. With a state-of-the-art automated filtration, sanitation, and air circulation system not to mention 1,000 pounds of dissolved Pharmaceutical Grade Epsom salt, the float environment is kept pristine at all times. No need to worry about soaking in harsh chemicals.

The float room is sanitized by UV light, H2O2 ozone, filtration, and Epsom salt. The beauty with this filtration system is not only does it filter the water, but it also cleans the air and tank walls in between each float.
